I’m a well travelled millennial, I feel the current state of reviews and average age of clientele here deserves specificity… if you’re looking for a safe, cheap place to crash while you explore Anchorage, you’ll be good here. We read the reviews and were super anxious as to what we’d be walking into. (We were also off the Holland America cruise line for context) The room was massive for a cheaper hotel. REMEMBER: this is a cheap hotel y’all! Don’t expect the Ritz or even a Hilton. Don’t expect an ocean view. The room was clean, so were the linens. And the carpets. And towels. And the rock solid bed everyone mentioned? Didn’t meet her. This thing is COMFY. Sure, there’s no mini fridge, but I’m not here long enough to care. The shower/tub: CLEAN. Also, sure, the water knob was weird to figure out and felt opposite of what it should be, but I fiddled with it and there was perfectly hot water that lasted my entire shower. The staff has been courteous, the location is fine and walkable to all the things. Please know that this city has a large amount of people experiencing homelessness. I’m not eating here, so I can’t comment there. The same people trashing this place in the reviews are also not taking into account the average appearance of their surroundings here, I feel. Don’t be freaked out to stay here. I’d argue that these reviews are reflective of people who stayed on a nice, all-inclusive cruise that are just getting back to reality.
I totally enjoyed my stay at the Westmark Anchorage. The service was pandemic the view from the 17th floor was spectacular. I recommend this hotel highly.
Two night stay here. Despite some of the negative reviews, I've stayed in worse places and would probably come back. Pros: Affordable. Rooms with balconies that offer good views. Close to everything in Downtown Anchorage, lot of good restaurant/breweries in walking distance. Cons: The building is old so it has a musky smell. My biggest issue is there's not much sound insulation so you'll hear traffic: both cars and ppl. Breakfast is not free ($24/person).
Perfect location in downtown Anchorage. Room was clean and the balcony had a good view of town. Breakfast was solid but eggs would've been nice. No meat options breakfast wise. Cereal was good, and it was nice having a bagel. Stayed in September.
Pros: Great location in downtown Anchorage with easy access to good local food, trails, and the rail depot. Breakfast is complimentary and consists of locally baked bagels, breads, and coffee - nothing fancy, but high quality. Rooms are quiet, clean, and spacious. Staff was very helpful and kept our extra bags safe when we left for a day before returning. Cons: Finding out that parking at the hotel is $40/night was an unfortunate surprise. We ended up parking on the street (free after 6 p.m.) and a public lot during our day away. Not the biggest deal, but inconvenient that we weren't able to plan appropriately before our arrival. TV couldn't hold a signal stably to save its life - froze every 30 seconds. Also unclear how frequently housekeeping maintains rooms during multiday stays - there's no signage suggesting multiple days between cleans, but it certainly wasn't every day.
Hotel was a bit tired, but staff was great and rooms were clean. Okay for the price category its in. Also location is excellent. Most of DT Anchorage is walkable. The Glacier Brewhouse across the street has great food. Many other restaurants nearby. Charge $40 a night for parking so keep that in mind when comparing prices if you have a car.
Hotel room was clean and fresh. We were some of the first guests to arrive on opening weekend and many rooms were not yet ready, as evidenced by the five or six other guests waiting with their bags in the lounge area.
